Ok here the coin: a good speciman 1914-S Saint Gauden Double Eagle PCGS graded MS63. PCGS Lists it at $2100 Red Book-$1400 Blue Book-$975 and the grey sheets-$1525. Ok and the question is. If you owned it. What would you consider the value to be. If you were buying it, what would you be willing to pay and finally if you were selling it, what would be acceptable. Thanks for your help just trying to get an idea on pricing as it seems so far off amongst different publications. Thanks

I would think it be around $1500.00 if I was Buying 1450.-1500. and again $1500.00 is what I would accept....if I were selling!

bg - the reason you are having trouble is because you are making an assumption that just isn't true. You are assuming that all Saints graded MS63 by PCGS are equal and thus they should all be worth the same.

Problem is, they are not all equal. Thus they are not all worth the same. If you were to examine the realized auction prices for these coins what you would find is that every single one of them was sold for a different price. And you would also see that that price varies greatly. It would be in a range anywhere from say $1300 to over $2500.

The only way you will ever find out what you can get for your particular coin is to sell it. Otherwise, for value purposes, you have to accept that your coin is somewhere within the range of various prices.
