Take a look at this '09 s-vdb. Something doesn't look right about it to me. The rim casts a shadow, Lincoln appears too far from the bottom rim. On the reverse, PLU is all but missing, but all the remaining letters are sharp. What do you all think? Not that I was going to bid on it, what with all the money I lost today. http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-S-VDB-Linc...70?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e65d81fa2
Sorry, I see nothing wrong. Look here; http://www.cointalk.com/t78043/ The "N" looks right, the wheats look right, the MM looks right, it appears to be position #4, etc. BTW, the rim leaves a shadow because it is raised. When you used a single or double point light source, that is what happens.
The biggest mystery to me is that the description refers to it as a 1813 Classic Head Large Cent CHOICE XF FREE SHIPPING
nothing appears to be wrong with the coin, unless you don't like the staple scratch (it looks fresh too) right above the date. My guess is that someone mishandled it and scratched the coin. This made the coin one to sell rather than keep. I would pass on it simply because of the scratch.
I've bought from him and it's been good. Boy though, that scratch really bums me out... The eye just gets drawn to it where it is... What a shame... Not sure I agree it's a staple scratch, just for kicks I tried to scratch an 'ol wheatie with a staple and couldn't get close to that deep. Maybe with a staple G U N
I am seeing too much damage for the price plus looks likeactive corrosion on the reverse. For that kind of price even a Genuine holderwould be needed for my money to head his way.
From what I can make out, I think it is a planchet flaw. However, that is an eBay picture and that would be hard to determine even from good pictures.
While you see a coin with a defect, I see a coin with character. I wouldn't pass on that, or any coin I wanted, just because of a small scratch, scrape or ding. I love coins that other people toss in the reject bin. Somebody has to give them a home.
