This coin legit?

Hello, I was wondering if someone more knowledgeable could help me out?
The first pic was taken from the "Strike it Rich with your Pocket Change" book which is pictured in the second image. The Third image is a photo of the OBW roll I just purchased on E-Bay. I asked the seller if he sometimes used stock photos, and he said "Never".

My 1st question - Does the end coin I purchased match the listing?
2nd - How reputable is this book? I normally use the CherryPickers Guide but this 1987D error isnt listed in it.
3rd - (Final Question) If its in fact the same error as the listing, is there a good chance I'll get more than one in this roll

I'm going to be honest, in all the years of my collecting, I have never heard of that book.

I would check this site out and see if that is listed there; however, you mentioned the CPG doesn't mention anything about it and it would be there if it were a variety or error I would think.

as for the coin it sure looks like the one in the book, but i'd have to have it in hand to make sure, good luck though

i would agree with you but there are a bunch of minor error the cpg doesnt mention lincolncentsource.com is good coppercoins.com is good to use there search..tool to check..

 

i have heard of this book.. and it would help but most of the items it mentions are not so much to say major errors but thing to take note of as a collector

 

i like how on top of the page in the book it states "possible error". in my opinion it looks like the one in the picture but i also think the one in the picture is nothing more than die deterioration. just my opinion.

If that image is correct it looks like a ton of zinc bubbles on that cent, some of which may be giving the suggestion of the error.

 

Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge with me. This book is kinda the reason I started cherrypicking. I came across it in a local Barnes and Noble about a year ago and was facinated! Also, I noticed that the Author of the book, Ken Potter actually edited The CherryPickers Guide Fifth Edition Vol.2. It just confuses me that one has a listing that the other doesn't.?.?

Also, does anyone know if every coin in the 1987D roll that I won will be exactly like the end coin, or is the end coin pictured probably the only one?

Only you can answer that question as you have the roll to search through. :thumb:

 

You could find more than one coin struck from a particular die if it's an original roll. You could also find only one example. The chances that all will be from that die are pretty nill.

In the case of the coin pictured, I agree with Mack. I think it's gas bubbles.
