Just to show that stretching the truth is not confined to ebay http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-collectables/Coins/USA/auction-102571646.htm
Let's see, according to coinfacts, only 66 1861 proofs were minted, and yet the seller has a buy it now price of $2,500. I guess they meant to say "This coin is genuine GOLD."
John, that is definitely a dud that you've posted a link to.I wouldn't be too surprised if it is a production from one of the coin forging factories in Commie China. They're very corrupt over there. Aidan.
The person has changed the photos since last night but the obverse doesnt appear to be the same coin as the reverse. It sure isnt a proof coin.
Dan,you'd be better off buying some nice 1/10 Krugerrands from South Africa,or some nice gold Sovereigns from the Dominion of Canada. That is coming from a British Commonwealth numismatist's perspective. Aidan.
Or some 1/10 th oz and 1/4 oz AGE 1988 or 1991..but I agree with Aidan..stay away from that one!! RickieB
Aidan and RickieB, I certainly hope that you noticed my post was dripping with sarcasm. Damn stuff's all over my screen now!
How strange. The person selling this coin has dropped the reserve and buy now prices to $1500 and $1600
Have no idea where Aidan got the idea it's coming from China. Appearently the picture is changed. Could easily be a reproduction coin like these ones here: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Repros.htm If you notice, they seem to be two different "coins" this time. Wouldnt' be too suprised if the "copy" side was avoided.
I tried to register to ask him a question, but it takes $10.00 to join. I was gonna ask him what the GOLD content of the coin is. LOL swick
