I want to put one together all PCGS and atleast MS or AU. I'm thinking of starting with the 1927 P in MS 63. IS $200 a good deal? I looked at the mintage for this coin and it seems like it is undervalued. Any thoughts on this?
That's about the right price. PCGS coins seem to go for a little more than NGC. PCGS price guide lists it at $195.00. Get that Peace Dollar set complete and all being PCGS graded, you'll really have something!! Best of luck!!
If you don't know much about the series, I suggest learning the basics of grading the coins before buying the better dates. $200 is strong money for a 1927. It better be a high end 63 for that kind of money. A person won't be able to tell high end from low end until they have seen a lot of coins. Hence my suggestion to start with the common, less expensive dates. If you are already proficient at grading coins, but just need to learn the new series, it will go quicker. If not, learning to grade can be a long process, but well worth the time and energy, if you are in the hobby for the long haul.
Welcome to CT! I also like the Peace dollars and believe the 1927P is a sleeper. $200 is a bit on the high side though for an MS63. I think you can get one for around $150-$175. TC
As a handy reference, you can go to your home page and type in PCGS price guide. It's free and I use it alot. Again, PCGS slabbed coins are a little on the high side compared to ANACS or NGC. You may pay a little more, but you will also get a little more when you sell. You may find a better price at a show.
