Recently found this 1980-P Nickel. It has "incomplete strike on thin planchet".
It weighs in at 3.73g. which is 1.23g light. It should weigh 5.00g +/-.
I weighed some well worn nickels and the lowest ones come in at 4.80g.
It is in AU condition. It does not seem to have an upset edge, which I think should show through, unless nickels don't get put though the upset mill, which I have information about. Any info about this will be appreciated.

Not to sure about that nickel. Could be PMD - IMHO

    Does the diameter match?

I know, me to. But, Note the Doubling on the right side of monticello's dome, and right top of building. The steps slope down almost to the field.
and then the psudo Blakesley Effect on top of reverse due to bottom being thinner.

The weight is really low. I don't think it's PMD.
You would have to grind away 1/4 of the coin, and it hasn't been.

The weight really is my best verification, 3.73 has got to be way below tolerance. Thank you .

I was thinking the same thing. Not only is it weak at the rims but the obverse jaw and Monticello didn't strike up well. Doesn't really look like PMD (grinding/abrasion) to me.

    It's a rolled thin planchet,
    based on the photos and
    weight, etc.

(I've was gone for 8 days at the
