I have recently received a dime in change that is about half the width of a regular dime. It is the same diameter of a normal dime. It is not reeded and it is not missing a layer. However the edges are extremely worn. I can not tell what year it is. I can only read 200. Can anyone tell me what happened to this dime?
it was eaither tumbled in a rock tumbler or someone dipped it in acid. or, it is a slug used in a soda machine.
It could be a thin planchet---a weight would be needed to know for sure. Also if you could post some photos that would help! Speedy
I have found thin dimes like that while metal detecting at the beach. The wear from the sand can wear down a coin very quickly as it tumbles in the surf.
