They call me "Mellow Yellow"...

    No this is not the Donovan Mellow Yellow lyrics, nor is it the drink. It is the European and North African Emergency Notes that were issued during the war. Another set of wonderful seal color with the signature blue:

    Reviving an older thread for educational purposes.

    Wartime emergency issues: During World War II, some Series 1935A Silver Certificates were printed with yellow, rather than blue seals. These notes were used to pay U.S. troops in North Africa and the Middle East, the idea being that the specially printed notes could easily be identified and demonetised if a large quantity fell into enemy hands.
