Can someone provide a reference in RIC where they explain the VI and VII at the end of TSA on some mintmarks from Thessalonika?
These are the relevant pages from RIC which mention them. It appears they used Greek letters for the first 5 officina then Roman numerals for the others:
The sample coin I posted above reads TS B VI. The B is second officina so the VI can't be sixth. I'm still in the dark.
The excerpt above said that coins of Constantine II were assigned to officina B and that the VOTs were struck in six groups. Could your coin be group 6, officina B?
I have seen coins with VI and VII following the TSx where x is the officina. I have not seen other numerals in that position but I have not made a deep study of the matter. This question came up from a high school group with uncleaned coins and I could not answer it. Things like this just point out that having a thousand late Roman coins can open your eyes to a hundred thousand things you do not understand. The numbers are greater for Greek and I don't even want to think about Provincials.
