I've had these two coins since I joined CoinTalk several years ago. I posted these pics back then and wondered about their authenticity. Everyone who responded said they're genuine, but these two coins still bother me.
Perfectly normal reaction to contact with unwelcome chemicals in the soil or while the coin was being cleaned.
There's good reason to be concerned. It took me a while to realize that counterfeiters targeted Manchukuo 1 fen coin especially 1939. While I do not understand why this year was targeted - it isn't terribly rare however it's not common. While I am quite certain the second coin is consistent with the genuine coin that I have (similar grain pattern), I can see why you would be concerned with the first coin. At this point of time, counterfeiters are mass producing counterfeits and then artificially wearing them out to ensure that they all look different, which makes them harder to tell the differences. For this reason, I purposely buy many duplicates to familiarize the details of the coins. I've posted two coins for reference
