There ought to be a law against scams such as these... New National Collector's Mint, Standing Twin Towers Commemorative, the towers fold UP. My God, that is one tacky slug. Covered in something like 1/100,000mm of silver recovered from ground zero... Yours for only $29.95, limit 5 per customer. :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

    bad form

It's amazing how some people thrive on other peoples missfortune. It would be different if the token was tastefull and the profits went to benfit the families of the victims.

Silver recovered from ground zero??? Was there alot of silver there, in the rubble? And if so, how did this mint acquire it???

There were vaults underneith the tower...with millions of dollars worth of gold and silver.

You can even buy silver 'recovery' eagles that were in the vault at the time of the collapse.

If you want to buy anything commemorating September 11 that is numismatic, you'd be better off buying a Spitzbergen 10 Roubles here; www.chervonets.com .Don't buy the bit of junk that's advertised above.

Don't think there is much difference between the medals depicted above and these Spitzbergen/Svalbard thingies ...

Recently a number of "commemorative" coins, e.g. commemorating the Kursk, has been promoted on eBay and other places. These issues must at best be seen as medals, they have never been intended for circulation, have probably never been near Svalbard and I, for one, see them as coming very close to attempted swindle. http://www.janeriks.no/Banknotes/arktikug.htm

Christian, the Spitzbergen pieces are listed in Krause's Unusual World Coins catalogue. There are also pieces from Kaliningrad also listed there.

Being that I knew and once worked with people who did not make it out of the towers on that fateful morning I find this "item" to be in extremely poor taste.
