I'm surprised that the person who won the auction did not realize that this coin is a fake. Lincoln's Bust has the quality of play money. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Double...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Thanks for Looking, Coinman,
High value coin and apparent condition. There is no good reason that a coin like this is not slabbed. Big red flag.
If you look at the negative reviews the seller is already accused of buying novelty coins and selling them as real.
Looking thru his past auctions, I believe all the coins he sells are fake. He doesn't have anything listed, but did have quite a bit in the past. Maybe keep an eye on this account, see if he lists anything else, if he does, we can report him.
I see two problems: -- eBay has virtually locked the door against reporting coins like this -- stupidity is still rampant among buyers
This is another one he sold for $499, the response was, "AAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++" http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Double-Die-Lincoln-Cent-VF-EF-/141458039028?nma=true&si=V0QpLPeuXvUNx7ybycdfs92vFkw%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 I have also seen him selling crude pitted copies of key date standing liberty coinage, other counterfeit keydate copper coinage (such as indian head cents and key date lincoln cents, all of them are cheesy fakes.
Wtf , but people are that dumb that they do not put two and two together to make four..l ,this is why I stress research is Kkey
I agree, If you are going to spend hundreds of dollars on a coin you should do research before hand, not just go on Ebay and place a bid of the first thing you see. If you want to spend so much money on a coin the first thing you should do is look closely at the photo to see the horrible details.
What a dirt bag! I sent in a ticket on this turd, it's sellers like that who give our hobby a bad name. The dude needs to be stopped somehow!
Looks like Abe went to a new hairdresser before posing for this coin! He also let his gotee grow out a little! It really is disappointing that eBay has made it easier for these types of sellers to exist!
The description is more helpful than one might think: "1955 doubled die Lincoln cent, ugrade." UGRADE is the key. UATHENTICATE might be better.
Does this the coin that they are selling AS A COPY look familiar. Note: both of the link below are being sold as copy coins, as stated by seller, "Welcome to my shop!I only sell replica coins for collections, none of the coins I sell are original. Please don't buy them as the original coins." http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1955...ING/2035759050.html?tracelog=back_to_detail_b http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1955-Double-Die-Obverse-Lincoln-Wheat-Cent-Penny/645527246.html
When I first looked at the coin, it has the look of the current copper-plated zinc cent, the "lighter" color of bronze (as well as weight).
