They are all a bit beat up, but I was happily surprised at the writing on the envelopes. I suspect that it was my grandads writing. Got to be over 70 years ago. Its a little of my family history in visual form. With almost all my family now passed this just brings good memories.
Beat up or not the family connection is the best part about them. My favorite coins are a few that came from my grandfather after he passed. Very worn, not worth much but they will always be a connection to him. That connection makes coins like these absolutely priceless.
So good to hear that. I’m pleased that family has meaning for you. I suspect those are the prices he paid for them. I like them all but especially the 1912-D V Nickel.
@cwart, yes probably only worth the price of silver to most but priceless to me. @Collecting Nut, I suspect you are right that the prices are what he paid for them. Wouldn’t it be nice to get them for that price now.
Yes, I am very fortunate. My uncle is who got me really collecting coins. He is my last living elder and I treasure the time we get together. I have also been an influence in getting him back into actively collecting. We enjoy going to coin shows and shops looking for unique coins.
I would really like to get a Stone Mountain coin. About 30 years ago, my family lived about 20 miles from Stone Mountain. They had shows every weekend. We would take a few blankets and some treats and lay back and watch the show. We bought the annual ticket that was attached to our windshield so we didn't have to pay everytime we went in. It was quite a show. I took my 3 children up the back of the mountain. After my 3rd year of doing it, I let me kids go up the back. I was only about 38, but hiking up the back of the mountain would eat up your strength. Loved your coins.
