I just won this Edward I (Longshanks) Penny and now I must wait. That's always the hardest part LOL. Take care Ben CORRECTED TO SHOW EDWARD I
Bone,King Richard I's nickname was Coer de Lion (or Lionheat). It was King Edward I who had the nicknames of Longshanks & Hammer of the Scots.King Richard I's coins all have King Henry's name,& are very scarce, whereas,King Edward I's 1d.'s are actually the commonest hammered coins in the British Isles series.London is the common mint, but other mints are a bit scarcer. Aidan.
Mikjo0,which mint is this coin? Is it London? I have got ones struck at Durham,Canterbury,& Newcastle-on-Tyne as well. Aidan.
Can you please do a close-up scan of the coin's reverse,Bone? I may be able to identify the mintname for you. Aidan.
Aidan, sorry,it's Canterbury.I posted it with the obverse pic above. Bone's is also Canterbury CIVITAS CANTOR
Aidan,Not ALL of them. The obv. reads RICARDVS and the rev.is AQVITAINE I think that British coins have Henry but French issues have Richard? I might be wrong.
