Nearly had a heart attack today when I came home from the Drs office. On my porch was a nice box from the US Mint! WTH I ordered those quarters less then a week ago(on the 5th by the invoice). Never had an order from the mint take less then 2 weeks prior to this so I suppose I should be happy.

Now I have rolls of all 5 of the 2012 S ATB Quarters. Now I just gotta sit back and watch the price rise :D

    You hope!

Don't get greedy and hold on to them too long.

Personally, I'd be tempted to open them to look for errors. One or two would pay for the entire order.

Hehe They probably won't last 24 hours before I crack em open. I'm actualy considering buying a few 5 spot quarter lenses and sending out a few sets as gifts (my brother and several others in the family also collect coins)

I am planning to buy a Star Spangled Banner dollar before next Monday and was thinking about getting a roll or two of the S quarters as well. The more I think about it though, the more I doubt it will be a long term money maker.

The rarest of them is the Denali. The mint has sold 5,433 of the 100 coin bags and 7665 of the 40 coin rolls. So that is a total of 849,900 of them out there. That is obviously much rarer than the P or D quarters, but all 850k of these are in the hands of collectors/dealers/flippers.

I have read that supposedly 100 million people collected the state quarters. But how many of them continued to the ATB quarters? And how many of those collect by mint mark? Of those that are left, how many even know that there are S mint quarters for them to collect?

In the long term I just don't see these quarters commanding much of a premium. But then again for $8 over face value per roll there isn't that much money to lose.

I think I might spring on these Denali quarters, im thinking of either 2 rolls or a bag, which would be better? The rolls for less damage to the coins?

That is fast! I ordered the day before you and have an estimated delivery date of 12/15. Are you on the east or west coast?

    My "S" coins came today.

I bought 5 Hawaii rolls with the storage box and a Denali bag. On the Hawaii rolls I lucked out, 4 of 5 rolls were head/tail, only 1 roll had head/head. This was also my first bag and it's pretty cool. The rather low mintages of the bags is what made me buy this one. They will be put up and passed on unsearched.

What makes you decide to buy the rolls over the bags and vice versa? To me the ones in the bag would end up dinged and scratched more than the rolls. Ive never purchased anything like this from the mint before, but I did snag a single roll of Denali-S' today. Take a chance and see if they increase in value over my lifetime

IMO, it's best to buy from the mint. When you buy from re-sellers, the choicest coins have been cherry picked, so you get the ones that do not make their grade.

Rolls vs. bags? IMO, the coins in rolls have much less opportunity to bang against each other, leaving bag marks.

OKAY that all makes senses to me Rick I will try that, you buy from the U.S. Mint?

Ok bag vs roll. To be honest i was a little disapointed in the rolls. The 2 bags i bought (hawaii and maine) had many coins that would grade at least 66/67 and a maybe 5-6 that might get the 68/69 (2 maybes in ea bag for 70 too but that is maybe :D) for the rolls I got 1 maybe 70 each 1-2 68/69 and the rest i would call 65/66 some worse. All in all i was a little disapointed in the condition of the coins in the roll vs the bag, I expected the opposite.
Outside of the quality issue with a bag you get 100 coins for 35 or .35$ each with the rolls it's $19 each or .46$ each.
After this little experiment with the rolls, i think i will stick with bags from now on.

Yes. All of the new issues that I am interested in.

Sometimes you can sit back and wait for the price to go down in the aftermarket, and it usually does, but then you get everyone's seconds. People buy it up from the mint, keep the best, and sell the rest. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as I sometimes do it myself.

You got luck. Most are finding the rolls are better, which makes since.

OK!!! This question has probably been asked and answered often before I run the risk of asking it again.

I know that individually the ATB coins will probably not be worth a lot in my lifetime, but I really want to know.

I have been 2 two coin sets of this series since inception and just putting them aside to make my heirs rich but I don't recall seeing anything about errors in this series.

    Is there any?

The only error is thinking these things will make you rich down the road.........

Rich no. I do however think they will carry a nice premium in a few years as all of the mintages came out to about 1m vs the 200m of each of the p and d's. If nothing else they will end up a key date. Or even more simple they are already selling at an average of over $1 each on e-bay. Even with the gross cost of $.46 each thats already more then doubled in value and they are still availble from the mint. Even if not continued (or maybe especialy if not continued) I can only see them increasing in value from this point. All in all just another part of my hoard but one i truely beleave will prove to have been a good investment in the years to come.
