This question seems to recur over and over again. The Churchill Crown has been repeatedly declared WUCD* on many different forums. *World's Ugliest Coin Design
Have to find a pick of it... but have to say I never cared for the 1933 Martin Luther commemorative from Germany. It's not a very flattering portrait. Of course Pistrucci's portrait of George III was pretty bad too (to give him credit, he wasn't able to do the portrait from life, and his sovereign/crown reverse of St. George & the Dragon is great.)
Hey, I love that coin! I got one in a 1965 british proof set, and it was instantly a favorite. In all honesty, it is the most lifelike portrait I have ever seen on a coin. It may just be the photographer in me talking, but I think his bull-dog image and no-nonsense name say more than a 4-book series.
I dunno gang - I think the '95 Shriver Silver Dollar beats 'em all hands down. Thank God I can't find a pic of it :vanish:
Tsk tsk GDJMSP....google image search brought it right up. Definitely a toss-up btw her and SBA. Here's the largest image I could find (thankfully). Intersting coin btw....how anyone could make such an ugly coin to commemorate so worthy an organization is beyond me. "I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!" Apologies to all if the above statements are political in nature.
I used to always think the SBA! Well now I have to qualify that be saying ugliest US coin! That Churchill is UGLY!!!! so ugly I would like to get one, kinda like that dog thats so ugly its cute! What do they cost?
Ebay example typically run $2-3 + S/H. I just picked one up a few weeks ago at a small antique shop for the same reason.
*looks at the shriver, cringes* oh please, flip it over! Why does everybody bash my pal churchill? Oh well....maybe I'm weird. Ugliest coin, eh?...hmmm....My vote goes for this ...things that make you go *bwuahh* -Ron White
