    nah, then it would:
    1) be another money making center for them;
    2) they MAY be encouraged to 'create' errors;
    3) They would be the 'market makers' for the particular error.

    NO... would eliminate the fun search bank bags for error coins, would have dire effect on error coin prices/value.
    Ozarktravler... IMOP, FAIW, no.......no..............no

    wow

    they did. they sell it at face value. but i want a large quantity. so that the price will collapse. and i don't have to collect those error coins. i called it damaged coins.

    I think they do already. I recently received the mint notification of the 2008 W silver eagle. Not that it is unusual for me to receive these notices weeks after their released date but the picture of this Silver eagle clearly showed the 2008 w obverse with the 2007 w reverse. Image that , the mint sending out a picture of an error/variety coin. Well mine had the 2008 obverse and reverse. Maybe I should send them back cause I did not get what they pictured LOL.

    I think it's a bad idea. It would essentially be the same as a coin dealer slabbing and selling his own coins...oh wait that already happens...it's called SGS.

    On second thought:
    They already do: It is an error to buy from the mint.

    more error coins surface

    more and more error coins surface. it that intentional produce by the mint for collector's excitement?. what you think?. if the problem occurred, why keep doing that?.

    I agree with Franks first post and disagree with the second. :) I like getting my proof sets and such from the mint. So far I have not had any major issues with them.

    Wasn't there a time when the mint denied that they made mistakes?

    Very best regards,

    I don't think they'll ever do that on purpose for one simple reason....cost. They complain now about losing a few cents here and there. How much would it cost to hire a group of people who sit around all day every day sifting through the billions of coins being made looking for errors to sort out and sell? Not gonna happen.

    Bad idea. Error coins are such because they were made in error. If they become saleable, then the mint would be incented to produce them intentionally.

    No, I think it would be a bad idea for many many reasons. Most of which have already been stated.

    more error coins were surfaced from the u.s. mint. they should control more on this matter.
