    Hi all,

I have noticed that most of coin collectors in several forums when talking about the 50 State quarters, they mention the P and D mint but not the S mint.

When i checked my Krause (2006), i found that most of the S mint quarters are mentioned as mintagenumber only some have a Prf-65 value while others dont e.g. The Iowa 2004S. Even some have no S mint e.g. Kansas

When searching online coin stores, folders and albums have slots and holes for the P and D mint only but no S mint.

Is the S mint coins not important, or difficult to collect or What? Please eduucate me.

I am about to finish a 50 State quarters set P and D and start a Lincoln cent and Jeffeson Nickel set, and i dont know if i should search for the S mint coins or not ?

The S mint coins are Proof only for the state quarters. You can obtain coin albums that only have holes for P&D or albums that include proof only issues. Whether the San Francisco mint quarters are important or not are up to you the collector.
The San Francisco Mint today primarily only mints proof coins with some occasional uncirulated commenoratives.

Yep, S mints are usually proofs, so they only have holes for the P's and D's since they are the ones intended to circulate. This is not the case with old coins. 40+ years ago S-minted coins were not proofs and circulated right along with the P's and D's.
