A few interesting treasures arrived this week - two books and two coins. I have been waiting for the book by Dr Liv Yarrow for several months (since October). It arrived this week with a coin that is pictured in the book! It is too soon to do a book report on RR to 49BC, but a quick glance says it should be a good read. A holed bronze core of a Q.CASSIVS denarius is shown by a similar coin in Dr Yarrow's book. The book on Byzantine Scale Weights has something missing from most of my books, a catalog, including pictures, of 319 weights ranging from 1 As (327 grams) down to less than a Solidus (4.55 grams). Q. Cassius Longinus 55 BC. Rome Fourreè Denarius Obv - Head of Bonus Eventus right, scepter behind Rev - Eagle on thunderbolt between lituus and jug, Q. CASSIVS below. nearly very fine, holed 2.96 grams 18 mm Crawford 428/3. APULIE, LUCERIA, AE semuncia, 268-250 BC Obv - Crescent Rev - Thyrsus with fillets; in field, L Vecchi 343 19.2g Patine verte. Beau à Très Beau (Fine - Very Fine)
I’ve just read the book, I found it amazing; an original perspective in interpretation of the denarii iconography and a lot of history in it. I definitely recommend it.
