I am not really a currency guy but i thought that you may find this funny: http://windell.oskay.net/humor/qqqfiles/extras/taco.html Sometimes i go to the bank and get $100 in $2 bills to spend just for fun, never had this happen to me before though! sorry if you have already seen it...
That's about the ninty-third time I've seen that story told as a first party incident by different people. It's even been here on CoinTalk before.
I had a problem with a SBA. I went to a dollar store and bought a huge pack of gum, and gave them the SBA. "Sir, I can't take this." I figured the girl at the register thought it was a quarter and told her it was a Susan B Anthony dollar. She still refused, and said it was fake "cuz they never put women on coins." I asked if her manager was there, at first she refused to get him, but then she reluctantly did. The manager took my coin and looked at it, and turned to the girl at the register and said "This IS real money, it was made before you were even born." She is probably only 16, but I'm glad the manager had enough sense to know what it was. Ever since I heard the taco bell story, I LOVE to spend halves, sacagaweas/SBAs, and, especially $2 bills! (as well as the occasional buffalo nickel without a date)
I've tried this type of thing a few times (with Ikes) and no one seems to care, they just take it and act as if it's perfectly normal.
2 weeks ago the cashier thought my kennedy half was worth a dollar at the supermarket. luckily i was nice guy and told her it was worth only 50 cents. only place I ever used Ikes was at the Eisenhower house in Gettysburg. they couldnt believe that someone would actually use there Ikes.
