I like the victory behind the two emperors on the Gratian solidus. That type is beautiful for a late Roman coin.
Beautiful style on the Alexander stater! Not a trace of wear on that soft gold after 2300 years, amazing. John
Very nice top ten. Myself I am a fan of the Louis XI. There is just something special about these Ecu D'or.
Well of course the Gratian and the Alex stater will find much favour here, but I want to give that exceptional Merovingian tremissis a shout out. Awesome!! So good to know these coins are in Canada.
Thanks so much for nice comments! That Gratian Solidus, probably was one that I wanted as my first choice in an auction/ and that I ended up winning. It came from the Leu Auction. I still like the 1818 Stolberg Dukat the best. But then I collect all coins from all periods in history. There were a lot of others, that could have made my top ten, like a MS-66+ 1908 "No Motto" St. Gaudens Double Eagle I got from Stack's/Bowers last month. These are really beautifull for 20 th Century coinage.
