I got this Note a few years back dated June 1768 - forty Shilling - North Carolina. Hand signed twice on the front , many times on the back. That part of history amazes me. If only this bill could talk..
It is amazing. If those notes were mine I'd try to Google the names and see what pops up. Happy hunting if you do.
Cool Colonial, and fairly affordable. https://currency.ha.com/c/search-re...les&Nty=1&Ntt=North+Carolina+1768&limitTo=all
@Southernman189 Your note IS talking. It's intriguing! And with search engines it might be possible to find out what deal all these people did together or in smaller groups or separately that caused them to sign this note. Perhaps it was the purchase of a release from a contract or satisfaction of a debt to those people who signed off. I can imagine several scenarios. I, too, like @thomas mozzillo , would be urged by curiosity to search around to see what might have gone on.
http://digital.ncdcr.gov That is a great place for historical information about North Carolina and the people that lived there. I don't know if it goes back as far as your note, but you may be able to trace some of the family names by doing a search. My grandfather and grandmother show up there and I have found wonderful photographs of my grandfather that the family never had before this website was published.
Thank you folks, ya a great bunch of people. I have found some nice folks while collecting coins over the years. Good to see it comes with the hobby naturally
