Since quite a few people here collect ancients, hoping to find an answer to my little quiz. Back in the ancient days, people didn't tend to live very long. So with that said, what is person who lived the longest, and has his mug on a ancient coin? Be neat if there was a centurion (person that lived to be 100 or more).
You mean the 1000 year old Noah? ... I did forget the few 100 year olds I have heard of. I'm not feeling the best... not enough sleep recently
Oh dear, the hackers and infidels have breached the Apple Wall? Those who felt themselves immune are no longer thus so.....
I think you meant to say 'centenarian', not 'centurion'. centenarian - a person who is 100 years old or older centurion - a military commander in ancient Rome who was in charge of about 100 soldiers
Would love to have one of those helmets (or the one with the crest pointing forward). Anyways, I know some Roman emperors ruled while they were in their 60s and 70s (Tacitus and Marcian for example).
Ripley wins with Helena I think. (Wow, old family for that age!) Tiberius was also 77 at death, I believe. Here's him looking young on a pretty beaten up "tribute penny" (best I could do):
Ionia, Smyrna AE20 mm. 2nd - 1st Century BC. Laureate head of Apollo right / ZMURNAIWN HRAKLEI, Homer seated left, holding scroll on knees, hand raised to chin; staff behind. Homer, author of the Epics - The Iliad and The Odyssey, is recorded to have lived 99 years. Born in 800 BCE and Died 701 BCE. Not quite to your mark of 100, but I believe it's going to be as close as you're going to get. Aside from him, I believe Noah will be your eldest at 950ish. Now, we just need to find an ancient commemorating Methuselah at 969 years. Then everyone's case may be put to rest.
