Just had an experience with a fellow member of this forum that I want to share. He's the kind of guy who was happy to help and remain anonymous. I tend to focus on the cool coin people and try to ignore the duds. I'm sure many of you have a similar good stories. Here's mine: As a boy, I collected circulated-grade Jefferson nickels. My collection stopped in 1961 (tends to date me, I reckon). Anyway, years later I have reignited my interest in coin collecting. I've worked my way to my Jefferson nickels and found that I needed Jeffs from 1962 through 1975 to fill up the new Littleton album I bought recently. So I went back to searching rolls (just like I did so many years ago to find all the nickels I have now) and filled most all the dates. Except three. Now there were not rare coins (none from 62 to 75 are), nor was I seeking anything more than just circulated grades. I noted this via a thread with another Jeff nick collector in this forum. Lo and behold, another guy emails me and says to confirm what dates I need. I do, and he sends me the three nickels gratis packaged as well as any eBay transaction you could want. All he wants is a thank you. Well here's a THANK YOU, my friend. If this isn't a great enough forum, there are some extra-keen folks on here who enjoy the love of a fine hobby and carry the ball on it. Just small random acts of kindness and generosity are a great exlixir for us all. Regards Houston_Ray
You are right Ray, there are some darn nice people on this forum. Not just one or two, but many real nice individuals that live and breath coins. A finer bunch of people you wont fine any place else. They sure got them here on Coin Talk.
Well, if "he" insists on being anonymous, then I will take the credit. It was me!! Just kidding. Yes, there are many good people here, I think partly because we are all here because we choose to be. As far as I know, no one (or at least most) don't come here to get or give abuse. I was the recipient of a couple contest winnings on the old CW Forum, all sponsored and paid for by a member at his own expense (ongoing here now), and I know quite a few members helped each other out (i.e. - free coins mailed at the donor's expense). If I ever have anything worth giving away, I will be glad to contribute.
I concur, houston_ray, I put my first thread out two days ago and already I have a couple coin buffs ready to send my son some pennies to help him with his collection. Makes it all worth while. JD
I certainly agree!! "QueenCoin" sent me Franklin half dollars to help me get started on that collection, and "Catman" has been very kind in helping me with my JFK Half Dollar collection. Other than thank people such as that, I hope I also am generous with my time and spare coins to help others. This is a great site, with outstanding members.
