http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/american-palladium-eagles.html this will be a knock out beauty
Wow, I'm not very confident about buying into palladium, but I'd sure love to have a coin with that reverse design...
But will it still be that nice after the mint gets done with it? Lowers the releif, shinks it down so theu can put UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1 OZ 999FINE PALLADIUM and the denomination?
You've gotta be fastr Danr... I've been keeping track of updates on the new Eagle Palladium coin here on CoinTalk for some time already... American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act Introduced in House
I love the eagle! But frankly, why can't some of the guys at the mint do NEW art that looks as good as the old? I like the Merc dime, but we've already seen it.
Artists and Designers are unique individuals, they are not just kept around to copy others' style. Hopefully they exist to push for innovation and to realize their own personal expression relevant to the modern sensibility come to life. Also, creating such things as coin designs is not solely the creative/craftsmanship of one person but many coming together, this combined with production related issues/demands on a design and pressure from special interest groups that lobbied for a coin and the ensuing design committees directing the hand of the artisan overwhelms the spirit of the artist and their ability to convey expressive design concepts. Result: the very dreck most collectors bemoan about modern coin series.
There is no answer for this. You are way too early to be asking. The bill has only just been signed into law. Don't look for them until later in the second half of 2011, if they even manage to get this product off the ground.
I have to agree as much I love some of the older designs why can't they come up with something original to use on the Palladium coins. I know that part of the problem is that the bill dictates the overall design of the coins and that puts some limitations on what can be done but to reuse a previous design is just so unimaginative and cautious. I guess it won't matter for me since palladium is at 750 an ounce plus whatever surcharge is tacked on. I don't think it will be in my budget but who knows
Any new updates to the Palladium Eagle? I haven't seen any online articles mentioning them in quite awhile.
Those designs won't strike worth a damn if they are put together and left in high relief. That is an absolutely beautiful reverse design, though; and I'd love to see them come up with a good looking obverse design that will both compliment it and allow them to strike it to its full potential. If they keep the Mercury design, they'll probably have to significantly lower the relief on both obverse and reverse.
I'm with some of the other guys.......... How 'bout a NEW depiction of Lady Liberty...... That would be awesome!
Will be a beautiful coin , but would like to see a coin done of the Standing liberty 1917 design . rzage
I really hope they come out with an original, exciting NEW design for this NEW series. I think we can all agree that the "Mercury" dime was an example of great artistic design, but do we really need another bullion series with a borrowed design?
I locked in my buy price on these at roughly $580 each. (I will get 2 of these beautiful APEs for that low price.) I did this by buying two 1 oz. Canadian Palladium bullion coins last year when I heard this new coin was in the works. (I had a feeling that Palladium was going up and I wanted to lock in a lower buy price -- almost like pre-ordering the coin). Since then Palladium has shot up nearly $200 an ounce. So when these new coins are available, I will sell my 2 Palladium bullion coins and use the proceeds to buy 2 new Am.Palladium.E's (although I am sure there will be probab a $50+ premium on the coins over spot ... so maybe I will get these coins for $630 out of pocket each. Of course, who knows what will happen by the release day. If Palladium drops through the floor, I will end up over paying!
