I was wondering if anyone had the data or if I would have to wait until I bought my silver proof set. Has anyone seen the actual weights on the .999 silver coins? I realize that they are not a bullion buy at all, but I was curious as to what the actual weights are and how they compare to the weights of the 90% coins as well as those of the clad ones. Does anyone have the numbers yet? Or am I going to have to weigh them when they come?
https://catalog.usmint.gov/america-the-beautiful-quarters-2019-silver-proof-set-19AQ.html That should be what you're looking for I think.
Seems to be in line with specifications, I don't have other silver ones out of package. as close as my scale reads. penny , nickel, dime, quarter, half 2019 Silver proof set weight Weight: 2.500 grams 5.000 grams 2.537 grams 6.343 grams 12.685 grams grams clad proof set Weight: 2.500 grams 5.000 grams 2.268 grams 5.670 grams 11.340 grams 90/10 Weight: 2.500 grams 5.000 grams 2.500 grams 6.250 grams 12.500
Is the OP looking for the data that is ordinarily included in the Red Book for each denomination? Is this info included in the latest Red Book (2019)? Chris
yes, in fact what I need can be extrapolated from that. The half dollar will weigh twice as much, and the dime will weight .4 x the weight of the quarter. That makes the math look something like this: .999 / .900 / clad Half Dollar 12.686g / 12.50g / 11.34g Quarter 6.343g / 6.25g / 5.67g Dime 2.5372g / 2.5g / 2.27g thanks!
Yes, Chris, I am, except the latest Red Book that I have doesn't have weights for the new .999 Silver Proof Coins, so I was trying to figure it out.
I don't buy a new Red Book every year, so I don't have the 2019 edition. Am I to assume that you don't, either? If that is the case, is there someone on these forums who does have a 2019 edition, and can they provide you with the needed info? Chris
I want to acknowledge this excellent answer as it was posted during the time I was calculating and posting my findings.
The US government finally decided that because it was less expensive to get .999 fine blanks than .900 fine, that they would allow coins to be made from at least 90% silver and this year they started minting all silver coins in .999 fine silver. This includes the Apollo 11 Silver Dollars.
I don’t know if the 2019 Edition has the info. I am also unsure if the 2020 (current) edition has it, either.
I have both 2019 and 2020 where do I look for that info, and Ill check? ive flipped through, but can not find the information. also, the numbers earlier came from https://www.usmint.gov they are accurate.
The 2019 blue and 2020 red book editions do not reflect the change for 2019 silver sets. Green they have different areas of the book related to Silver. I think even the 2020 edition was published before 2019, they must want to release it early to increase sales. haha, I dunno. won an auction they were out of the item, but wanted to give me a credit, instead of arguing I seen they had the new redbook, I said just send me that if you want.
Hmm. Is there any chance for speculation here? Which, if either will be worth more in the future - the last year of the 90% or the first year of the 99.99? Production numbers and public interest will tell. Seems like this is the final end of 90% coinage. https://catalog.usmint.gov/america-...l?cgid=america-the-beautiful-quarters#start=1
Kripes you guys are up late. As for me, I'm off to bed. Not as spry as at one time, feisty in his stance, I remain, and yet I'm tired. Tomorrow, my friends.......
Dang you. You know I can’t go past this video/song without hearing it at least one time. Lol But, yeah. The end of the line for 90%.
