The new 10c.,20c.,& 50c. coins are now in circulation. There will be 3 months of confusion in which both old & new coins will be in circulation. It is the death knell for the 5c. coin.

You can see the new coins here; www.newcoins.govt.nz .

I like the new 20c. the best,as it reminds me of the 20 Euro-Cents coin.I'm not so keen on the 10c. (being copper-coloured) or the 50c.

So whats so cool about it? That they dumped 3 different coins? I bet that cute lizard you have on a 5c cost a way more than 5c. By the way, why are they talking about "savings" to the taxpayer? Isn't NZ reserve bank a private corporation, same as Federal Reserve bank of the USA?

Vlad, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is 100% government owned.I don't know what propaganda the R.B.N.Z. are peddling.I certainly don't like a lot of their issuing policies.

That they adapted the number and size of the denominations to their purchasing power, I guess. (As far as the diameter is concerned, the 50 cents coin was a bit large ...) Also, from what I have read, the new coins contain mostly (97%?) steel. That should make making them less expensive. :)

Christian,we have had confirmed reports of Canadian coins being mixed in the shipment of New Zealand coins. One person found Canadian 5c. coins in a roll of New Zealand 20c. coins, despite the fact that the coins are of different shapes.

The mix-up obviously occurred at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg.
