    Hey all,

I just watched a movie called 'The Good German'. In this movie, the character played by George Clooney went to a pawn shop to ask questions of the owner. He offers the guy some bills to see if that wouldnt make him open up more. I do not have a very big TV and I paused it but couldnt get a clear view of the bills he passed. They show the bills several times in that scene...once in his hand, and once on the counter with the pawn shop owners hand on top of them as he pushed them away. I DID see 'marks' on it but thats about all. My question is...have you seen this movie? Do you own this movie? do you have a big TV? I was just wondering what type of bills he passed...just curious. If you ever get a chance to watch the movie, pause on that scene and see if you cant ID the bills he used. Think of this thread and report back :)

The notes are Allied Military Currency that the US made for Germany
    in the late 1940's.

There are similar notes for France, Italy, and Japan.

One can find lots of pictures of the notes by going to Ebay
and searching for "Allied Military Currency Germany".

US soldiers could redeem them for US dollars, creating a black market
    for them.

The Russians also had a license to print them.

    :)

As discussed in a recent thread, identical Military Payment Certificates were used worldwide by US forces after WWII. There were several series as a result of attempts to reduce black marketeering.

I am going to have to record the movie and look at it again and compare the notes I found in my search to what they were using...I THOUGHT it had 'marks' written around the corners and these dont have that but I could just be remembering incorrectly...thats HIGHLY possible...my memory is not what it used to be...old age creeping in :)

    Thanks!
