I was combing eBay this afternoon, just browsing, and was stunned by this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Britain-1847-Si...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50

Please note, I am (obviously) not the seller, this isn't about any transaction. I was just struck by how incredibly beautiful and cool looking this particular coin was. I don't know anything about British stuff, but it got me thinking.

What do other folks think are some of the most attractive coins ever made? Post links or pictures, I'd love to see what you guys come up with.

Very nice design, I'm not familiar with this type, but it look like that one has been harshly cleaned.

Which one has been cleaned? The gothic crown or the Austrian piece?

The crown. And I believe its way overpriced. I wouldn't pay anymore than $2000.

    The gothic crown.

  10. That gothic crown is indeed very beautiful, even though it is cleaned.

I think that any coin in gold is beautiful. Gold coinage in general just has a very pleasing look to it, as far as I'm concerned.

  11. *Correction, REAL gold, not the 'gold' dollar coins that are being minted these days...

    I am more of a copper person.:D

  13. Copper comes close... haha

Copper tones really nicely though, and when it wears, the chocolate color is still pretty attractive

    Well . . . I don't know a whole lotta varieties (I collect US coins, $1 and under, that circulated w/in the last 100 years or so) . . . .

So, with my limited experience, I have to say . . . that 2009 UHR looks mighty fine, don't you think? Lady Liberty looks like she's walking right out of the coin at you.

There are so many to choose from that it's pretty hard to pick just one, but this one ranks right up there -

    1579 Rose Noble - Netherlands

I looked at that seller's other auctions and every coin he lists seems to have this steely-blue tint to it, so I'm assuming he's photoshopping the images a little to make them more appealing. Not that I would have been in the market for it anyway.

Bummer, I was thinking it was kind of cool that a coin had toned that way naturally, but it doesn't look like that's the case.
