The Canadian pennies (the right-most column, assuming I'm reading your table correctly) you have are pretty common. I guess it all depends on their conditions/grade. Check the Charlton Standard for the market prices and varieties. I can look them up later once i get home if you want.
that's amazing AJ. I bet there was a point when you could hardly wait to pull out the next date. I've never gone this route of searching before, but it sounds pretty fun. I've been meaning to give it a shot, and see if it's something I can enjoy. Good finds!
Thanks - I really was loving it when I pulled out a 1909-P.... made me wonder what else could be in there (I'll admit, I was pretty hopeful that I'd find a key date in there, because it seriously looked like someone had dumped their collection into that box, which made it's way to me!) As for the Canadians, unfortunately, I already know that they're all common dates! I only need the really old small cents from Canada now, like the 1923, 24, and 25, which can get expensive! ~AJ
Forgot to ask, so you just went to a bank and ask for a box of pennies? Does your bank just have them up for sale or what? I didn't know banks deal with numismatic or at least deal with them like collectables (since they are charging a premium it seems). Maybe I should try the banks we have here. I've tried the post office (which deals with the contemporary Royal Canadian Mint items) and they don't even get the rarer 50c pieces in their cashiers. My next resort is to get the bank to order a new roll for me from the mint. Then i can get uncirculated ones at face value!
Very cool AJ! The best I've done is about 10 wheats, and that was in this last box the oldest was a 29-P in VF. Tony
wow That's amazing! I might have to start searching some pennies every once in a while. Wonder what the odds are that someone dumped a collection in there. On the plus side I took the rear seat out of my Explorer for better mileage and found about 2 bucks in change under the carpet, including a 1957 nickel. I would normally keep an old nickel like that, bu it was so gummy that I spent it with the rest of the change when I rewarded myself at taco bell.
Yeah, my normal total for a box is about 5-10 wheat pennies and a couple three or four Canadian cents. but this was absolutely amazing. There were only 6 rolls (out of fifty) where I did not find a wheat cent. Everything from 1909-2005 was in there. By the way, if you look at my post in the open forum, I obviously now have extras of a few cents that I'm willing to trade... have a look. ~AJ PS Kvasir: Yes, I just go in to my bank and ask them for 1 box of pennies. It's $25 face value, and they charge no premium.
