    Okay...

So, I'm poking through the foreign silver junk box, and this coin comes up. I've never seen one like it before (didn't read that part of the Red Book all those years ago, apparently) and so it took a Google Search to catch up. But I knew it definitely didn't belong in the foreign silver bin...

(In case any of you are wondering, YES, I informed the coin shop of what I'd found and offered to image it and post it here for opinions, and if necessary, send it to NGC for grading/authentication. No chastising me for taking advantage of the shop, okay? (sarcastic but good-natured wink))

Well, I got it home, imaged it, and as I'm editing the photos, I read the inscription on the coin for the first time. Probably would have saved me some time...

    1652 Massachussetts Pine Tree Shilling.jpg

    Here's what it says:

"IN Masathusets" - Pine Tree Side
"New England An Dom" and "International Sterling Facsimile of Pine Tree Shilling" and "1652 XII"

So, definitely a copy. I believe a couple of these brought around $17/each on Stack's website back in 2010. At least it's supposed to be silver...

Since I measured/weighed it already, might as well share:

    Weight: 7.1 grams
Diameter: 29 mm (which would, if authentic, have made it the large planchet variety)

So, the magic of reading pays off....eventually. When you actually read.

I have one of those. Neat item. Not very common. Minted in the 1950s I think ? From what I remember, they typically sell for more than $15 - more like $40 to $60 ?
