https://www.coinworld.com/numismati...lysis-first-and-final-years-of-a-short-series The sole-finest graded 1971 Eisenhower dollar in PCGS MS-67 realized $19,186.88 on June 13. A few weeks later an MS-67 1978 dollar brought $9,843.75 at a different GreatCollections auction.
I can’t see spending money like that for any Ike unless it is doing my taxes for me….. But I am happy to see the Ike getting paid some numismatic attention.
I couldn't agree more @Randy Abercrombie The Ike is my least favorite of all American coins. The design just bores me to asleep.
Have never been an ardent fan or anything of an avid collector, whatever, of the Ike $1, but greatly admired the man and his service to our country...to me made the coin seem more palatable...larger/better...than just the design, and esp since my two sons are career-Army officers. That said, here's the best Ike I've ever seen bar none, let alone owned (by sheer happenstance)...if I can ever get it crossed from this minor/defunct TPGs slab, I'd say it's every bit a 68 and very possibly a 69. I'll get around to submitting it whenever all this pause and delay back-up ever ends...IF it ever ends...just not good to have coins sitting around somewhere unknown for weeks/months or more. Sorry it's s tad blurry on the rev...am still slow with this photo learning curve (and my wife's cell).
It appears to have mechanical doubling on 'IGWT'. Chin ding might preclude it from the 68-69 you're looking for.
Well, if they're grading the coin and not the photo it shouldn't...for some reason it's magnified (and greatly, relative to actual size)...never even noticed it or the MD before with a 5x...but my eyes aren't the best plus I'm sure their exam/scrutiny is ramped-up for such grades. That said, have seen worse on 68s and comparable on 69s. It's more a crap shoot of subjectivity, opinion and interpretation, one grader to another on any given day. Thanks for the heads-up.

Just saw that the duplication bug has struck again...wonder if this edit will appear on all the duplicates...?
I think Ike is notable for being the last large sized dollar in general circulation. That’s really cool to me, handling giant coins like that. design sucks, but it’s significant in practice
They were big and clunky but when they circulated you could buy a few things with one. In the early seventies an Ike dollar would buy you a couple gallons of gas.
When they first came out, I would go to the bank and buy a few for birthday gifts of some of my friends. I should have put a couple in storage.
