Since we don't really have a place to post "offtopic" threads I decided to make it a contest. The person with the best solution by Friday 8pm Pacific time (or the first one I think completely solves the issue) wins the contest. The situation- While using ebay one of my main searches is under Coins and Paper Money ----Paper Money US however when I search that I get a lot of garbage bills such as copies, novelty, replicas. I have tried -copies, -novelty but still the first bill that shows up..... a 1 million dollar Obama bill that was posted under the novelty section but didn't have that word in the title. grrrrrrrrrr. I want something that removes the novelty and replica sub categories as well as these main terms if they show up in a title. The winner/computer genius will win the following-
i just go under coins and currency, then under US currency. from there on the side of the screen is a list of large note, small note, novelty, etc. it weeds out most the junk. i don't expect to win, because this only gets rid of most the junk. and i also don't know a way to weed out, when searching for a specific note. i will look and see if i can help. edit: i just tried it, going under "federal reserve notes" i didn't see no junk. i then typed in obama and it only turned up 6 notes.
I am going to assume that you do not want anything from that seller since you give almost no specifics. Go to advance search and toward the bottom is Select "specific sellers" and switch to exclude and ban all sellers you desire from your searches.
Hi, If I understand you right, you are getting too many items that you have no interest in. Well then exclude them! You didn't mention whether you are using the advanced search or if you are typing the minus sign in manually. I was able to impeach Obama no problem. Go to advanced search and use those functions! The key is make sure to save your search in order of priority for quick checks later on. For example if $10 notes are your current thing. Your saved search title might look like this 001 $10 US Auction only ending in 24hours. Sounds mostly like you will want to focus the exclusion feature in the advanced search. Enter in the words that **** you off! For example: $10 in US Paper money currently turns up 4500 results! Now... In the advanced search page, using $10 as your main item to look for... Do this: In Keywords type: $10 In exclusions type in: Replica Obama Confederate Click "save search" Click "search title and description" Enter in a range of $20 to $100 (choose your own range silly!) Click "Auctions only" Or "BUY it NOW" Click "Ending within 24 hours" or ending in an hour.... Choose the way you want it sorted - "Ending first" Expand the results to 200 items per page. There are so many cool little functions. Want the most reputable sellers? Click on free shipping. You will exclude nearly everyone, however my favorite sellers are those who ship free. oops sorry OT .. this is about you! I now come up with a search result of (75) $10 US bills that are at current bid amounts between $20 & $100 that are ending in the next 24 hours! A lot better than 4500 results. yes, no? is this what you were looking to do? narrow down your results to the things you want? Auctions that are ending right now in a certain price range that aren't Confederate Osama Replicas? Hope that helps. Here again, the key is to save your searches and rename them so that they make sense to you. My suggestion of putting a number in front of your title will help keep your priorities to the top of your saved search list. It is easy to change and save again or make new searches with the same exclusions..... Maybe you do want to see Replicas of Obama...When you go to save, eBay will ask you if you are replacing an existing search, look closely, the writing is small... I had 70 searches at one time, I recently deleted and renumbered a bunch of them, I put in more stringent criteria .... since many of them were no longer needed or I needed to thin out the junk - looking for high end stuff only...anyways.. this is about you! Last point worth mentioning is that once you pull your search results up, you can still type certain other words into it. For example, I search for certified coins that have the word genuine, sometimes I will type over that word with scratched or damaged and then go to the tabs and see if there are any BUY it NOWs (i only do auctions) Oh crap.. This is about you! Ok you might just want to type $20 in over the $10.. do it! then click save search. rename it, click whether you want a daily email or not - then do it again for the other bills. shouldn't take long at all. Try again and Good Luck
Use this: http://www.auctionmapper.com/index.php I haven't tried it before but apparently you can filter subcategories!
I set a minimum bid amount and that usually gets rid of the pages of replica crop. For gold I say no items less than $100. Not sure what the bills you are searching cost, but I expect the Obama bill is less than $10.
that works pretty decently, but you still get all them package deals, ie: 50 lot set of mini st gaudens. there are a lot less of these then singles, but still a problem.
A Google search with very specific parameters will help. Or just skip ebay and find a site with the kind of stuff you want.
I got useful ideas from a few different people, I will probably mix and match them at different times. This really made me sit down and look at all the advanced search features (which was the goal in the first place). I am going to pick eyeeatwheaties as the overall winner. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Hey Thanks! I know eBay very very well. Glad to be of help, let me know how it works. The key is to manage by updating your searches and the criteria associated with it. also this is a very cool idea for a contest. I think I will borrow the idea in the future, I have some questions and I have lots of coins that I think people will appreciate. Rob
