If you haven't seen this yet, here's an interesting article about a dig at the Temple of Nestor in Pylos where a Mycenaean warrior was found with Minoan treasure. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/27/...eece-could-be-a-gateway-to-civilizations.html And my semi-interesting coins from Pylos. Achaea. Messinia, Pylos. Caracalla AE22 Peloponnesus. Pylos, Messenia. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ Assarion 22mm. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Athena standing left, holding phiale and spear. BCD Peloponnesus 819 Achaea. Messinia, Pylos. Caracalla AE22. Terminal figure. Peloponnesus. Pylos, Messenia. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ Assarion 22mm. Obv: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Rev: PYL[IWN] Terminal figure veiled and closely draped, holds in r. end of garment.
Semi interesting? Very interesting. Love the portrait of Caracalla on the second coin and the reverse on the first coin.
Thanks for the positive comments! I find Peloponnesian AE some of the most interesting and they do have a style of their own.
Thanks for the great link and the cool coins. I never heard of Pylos before but now I know all about it.
