Jan. 9th-12th in Orlando. It's my favorite show and my only chance each year to get away from everything. How many plan to be there? It would be cool if dealers with a table would post the number. Hope to say hi to many of you here.
I have all my airline and hotel reservations booked. I'm staying at the Rosen Plaza, across the street from the convention center. I arrive the 8th and depart the 13th. It would be great to get together like we did last year.
I always stay at the Rosen Plaza as well. It's a great show. I'll be there Tuesday night thru Friday.
I'm flying in Tuesday evening and meeting GIJoe Wednesday to set up his display.. It would be fun to meet other CT'ers - maybe use Charmy's table as a point of reference?
I'd be interested in splitting a table with someone... offset the cost and help us both out. Or is that not allowed?
I think she has a sign in sheet for others to see who is in attendance. Her write ups are classics and she always takes a good selection of photographs of our CT members. I am going to bring a couple of coins so Todd from BluCC Photos, can photograph them for me. He always sets up next to Charmy at the major shows. It would make a good destination for a CT meet and greet. I haven't seen too much information on the FUN site yet. Something should pop-up there fairly soon.
To those of you who frequent the FUN show: Would you know if this particular coin show is a good one for those of us interested in modern-issue world coins? East Asia in particular? If I ever have a chance to travel somewhere in the US for a coin show, I'd like to know which ones are the better ones for coming across world coin dealers.
Unless you are talking about bullion coins, none of them. I have been to many, many coin shows, large and small and from coast to coast. And I cannot recall ever seeing a dealer offering modern world coins, other than bullion coins. But if that's what you want, yes they are there. Of course depending on how you define modern, meaning what dates, you might find some in the dealer junk bins. And no, don't be offended by the term junk bins, that's just what they call them. As for world coin dealers in general, sure you can find anywhere from one to several at most coin shows, depending on the size of the show. The Fun Show will have a whole section devoted to them. But the coins being offered are usually a hundred or hundreds of years old.
Yeah, but usually the only thing they are offering are bullion coins. But since you mention it, I can recall seeing a few Proof sets offered as well. But that's about it.
Who do you use for transportation to and from the airport? I waited a half hour after my phone call for the assigned shuttle to arrive, and over an hour wasted on the other stops before getting to my hotel. My arrival flight gets me in at 5.35 P.M. Getting luggage and all, used up 2 hours in transit time. I hate to pay $30 - $35 for a limo on such a short distance.
