Found a small mom & pop bank in an old river town in southern Missouri on recent travels. Seems like it might be the fountain of age for coins. Not to be a bother right off the bat as I am not a customer, I asked if I could purchase one roll of nickels and a couple rolls of pennies. She came back with customer rolled coins. Here is what I found. Nothing spectacular but I'm going back for more soon. coin 1.jpg coin 1 (2).jpg coin 2.jpg coin 2 (2).jpg coin 3.jpg coin 3 (2).jpg coin 4.jpg coin 4 (2).jpg coin 5.jpg coin 5 (2).jpg

Yep. Sad every one of those nickels won top prize for NSS..no single step at all at the international expo. , and the county fair too ! Nothin much over face but they are nice. There is more to it than that though. The "41 nickel ended an era, and the "59 cent piece began an era.
In "42 the Philly mint put a mm . over the dome on reverse, the war nickels. First time they ever used a mm. on a coin. Thus the "41 nickel above ended that era of the Philly mint not putting mm on coins.
The "59 cent began with a redesign of the reverse, ending the former wheat penny design. I'll keep them some where.
