http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/0...-pennys-days-are-numbered-is-the-nickel-next/ I am glad I pulled thousands and enjoyed collecting Canadian cents from circulation in upstate New York for all those years, dated all the way back to 1920.
Considering the relative value of the US cent when they decided we no longer needed the half cent, it is amazing that they have made the things this long. There hardly is a need for cents or 5 cent pieces except for delusions that you have to pay sales tax to the nearest cent. I would like to see the smallest coin the dime, elimination of paper dollars and new $2 coins (like the Euro system). Places which charge 99 cents for a burger will have to raise the price to one dollar and give us another 1/4 ounce of pickle if they want to be one up on the place across the street which already had a 'Dollar Menu'. While we are at it lets change the designs. Franklin Roosevelt was a great man but he has been there for 66 years and is the new kid on the coins.
I have a huge pile of Canadians to sort once I am done sorting other stuff, and I still average about one canadian per roll where I live in upstate NY.
I don't like to see any coin phased out, but if they have to then they should add another to replace it. Say two and or five dollar coins.
