This has got to be the easiest counterfeit in the world to recognize, yet eBay couldn't . . . no . . . make that wouldn't do so.

I reported to them, and following is their canned reply . . .

eBay claiming to be a safe place to buy is nothing short of a joke. This sort of indifference is dangerous to its customer base.

Anytime I see someone that uses a handle like his...Ewe Cash.... I already know they have only one goal... Separate me from my cash. I always move right on by people that glorify the almighty dollar in their screen names.

I'm thinking that the customer service agent that made the determination is AI.

@ToughCOINS The reply you received from ebay is almost friendly.
Mark Feld posted one he received from ebay over on CU. It was pretty nasty in my opinion. At one time ebay had a panel of trusted experts that helped with reporting and determination. They did away with it. This is the reply that Mark posted.

    The Half Dime Arrows!

That piece looks more like California gold, such as a Moffat or Baldwin piece, than an actual 1852.

Furthermore, the head looks more like a $5 than a $2.50. You'll easily know what I'm talking about if you own a quarter eagle.

If only I could get it for a dollar or 2, just for the novelty!

I received this email and have since stopped reporting things. Now I am just waiting and hoping for a lawsuit...

Did you try to send the vendor a message? I looked at the site. Ewe Cash is a pawn shop, not a coin dealer, and that seems to be the only coin he has for sale at the moment. He may not have any idea it is fake, and he may have bought it in good faith. I did send him a nicely worded message just now, expressing that he probably doesn't realize it is fake and giving him instructions on how to compare it to the real thing on PCGS site (eBay won't let you send an actual link). I'll let you know if he replies.

Maybe one of us should buy the coin and send to a TPG. Have copies of the listing, the reply from eBay and lots of good clear photos. When the TPG returns it in a body bad or slabs it as counterfeit then file a law suit against eBay for millions.

This is yet another example of why I don’t buy anything on eBay.

    Maybe something good came from your efforts;
"This listing was ended by the seller on Thu, Oct 17 at 8:54 AM because the item is no longer available."

    I received this reply:
    "Hi,

Sorry but we didnt know it looked good to us was mounted in a ring i have since seen looked into this and i agree that photos dont look exact so i will remove this

    Kind Regards,EweCas"

Perhaps not every erroneous listing is intentional fraud.
