'Dacian' imitations of Roman Republican coins from Moesia and Thrace: http://balkancelts.wordpress.com/2012/08/23/the-dacian-myth/
Interesting article. I particularly wonder why Romania would associate with Dacia so strongly, (nothing wrong with Dacia of course), when Romanians are more genetically associated with ancient Romans than the modern Italians probably are. I would think Ancient Rome would be a powerful association as well.
Probably because during the communist period the Romans, like the Celts, were seen as a 'western' influence, whose role in the Romanian (and Bulgarian) ethnogenesis had to be played down.
Interesting. I can see though how Dacia is an attractive history to convey. They were wealthy, powerful nation. They could not stand up to the might of Rome in its prime, but few could.
Yes, but what do we really know about the 'Dacians'. The term is first used by the Romans, and appears to be a largely geographic rather than an ethnic concept. This opens a whole Pandora's Box on the question of who were the 'Dacians' ?
