I have been offered several gold, MS-63, $2.5 Indian Head coins from a company called The Coin Zone located in Sayville , N.Y. The price for these coins is very low - less than the bid price in the grey sheet. It is supposed to be a liquidation of an estate. They got my name from somewhere and called me cold. Has anyone heard of this company, or, done any business with them? I am tempted to buy these coins, but, I'm suspicious of the very good price. Thanks for any info anyone can give me.
Never respond to a cold call. Anything that seems to good to be true usually is. If the coins were valuable, the guy would just sell them to a dealer or on Ebay.
Never heard of them either. My dad got a call the other day from a company wanting him to buy some old double eagles...for more than double the price listed in the redbook!
Thanks for the replies Peter, Cloudsweeper, and AdamL. The Coin Zone said they would take half down on the coins, send them to me, then I would either pay the other half or send the coins back for a full refund including postage. The salesman told me the grading company was NNC. I've never heard of this grading company and I don't trust their gradings. Has anyone else heard of NNC or used their service? All my other coins are graded by NGC or PCGS. Again, thanks for any replies you can give me.
Honestly, I wouldn't buy anything from any telemarketer. I hate telemarketers, period. You should get your phone listed on the Federal Do Not Call list.
After you get on the DNC list, be prepared to get more calls each day for about a month. ---How to get a telemarketer to hang up on you.--- Start talking about your car, lawnmower, etc. problems and say its not that bad. I'll take $$$ for it. When they try to continue, talk about the repairs you did on it and why you think its nice. No matter what, keep trying to sell them the item. They WILL hang up.
I suggest you don't deal with them unless you know them. If a scam, they could just take your 50% and you would never hear from them again. If they send you coins, they would probably be something below MS63. If they were MS63, then they would be in a normal TPG holder and they would get MS63 money. Walk away & don't provide them with your physical address, etc. Very best regards, collect89
No One said this yet so WELCOME TO THE FORUM. You probably purchased something on the internet or a catalog and never noticed that statement do you mind if we sell your information. Many mail order places make money selling your name, address, phone number, etc. unless you find that statement and say NO. There is a list somewhere of about 100 coin graders today and the amount is growing. Want to make some money? Start a TPGS yourself.:smile I never heard of that one and probably most haven't either. Possibly the people that called you just made that one themselves. Never buy anything from people that try to sell you something for way less than it's worth. As noted already why would they. You not a relative, not that a relative would give you a bargain either. If something is worth anything and could be a good seller, just put it on ebay. Why waste money on phone calls when ebay has millions of idiots willing to buy even garbage.
I WOULD NOT TOUCH THAT DEAL WITH A TEN FOOT POLE! Gold is HOT right now and a legit dealer knows it. They could sell to other dealers at bid and the other dealer can still make money. PLEASE, PLEASE! DO NOT THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!!!! ....and as Just Carl said welcome to the forum. REALLY glad you found it.
As to TPGS's. Here is a place that list a lot of them. http://coinauctionshelp.com/page16.html At the top of that page click on TPGS and you get a lot of them.
Hey, I knew that name sounded familiar...... http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-lidate276085219mar27,0,2749159.story
Hey Peter! I LOVE Telemarketers, when I have the time. As was stated above, it's a lot of fun to play with their heads because that is exactly what they are doing to YOU. I get on with them about non existant health problems and such. Had one on the line I was telling about hemmoroids and how painful it was to sit and talk to him about the auto warranty extension he was trying to sell me. Asked him if he knew a really cheap price anywhere for preparation H. What a hoot! Kind of a reverse crank xall like the Djays do. LOL
OK one more suggestion then I'll stop. Coin Rating And Packaging, That would make an honest acronym. It could look something like this.
I seriously think you've read to many of my posts and/or answers to others. Rediculous humor is rathe contagious. Still if you want, I'll go in with you on that last one.
BITE YOUR TONGUE! And the list of 107 companies was one I posted on the PCGS forum back in June of 2004. There have been quite a few more since then but I've never posted an updated list. If you want to see it it can be found here, the 12th post down. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=296016
