I started coin collecting at the age of 10 but I became a member of the Icelandic numismatic association at the age of 13 " the youngest by far ". The first coin I bought at auction at the club was this coin. And I just couldnt stop looking at it. It felt so old so full of history and the design was just out of this world. I remeber thinking about these people so long ago holding this coin. Imagined a world so far away from mine. And one day I would go and see that place.

I rember also thinking what are they doing with a ironing board ?

I got that explained to me later.....

I stopped collecting coins at the age of 15 and began again later in life. I still have the coin and I love it as much as the most expensive or rare coin I have in my collection today.

I would love to see the one that started it all for you if you have it still.

I found one of these while roll searching to fill my Whitman folder.

Morgan Silver Dollars, for the most part. We got a few when my mother-in-law passed away a couple years ago. I had never seen one before. Never knew they existed. Got me hooked when I researched the contents of her boxes.

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

I don't have a coin that started it. For me it was my dad bringing home several whitman folders one night when I was 7.

In 1964 I was in a junior bowling league and got a 1916 D Walking Liberty half in change from the dollar my parents gave me to pay that month's fees. I noted the mint mark was on the obverse, unlike any other half I'd seen.

I couldn't keep it (fifty cents was a lot of money in those days if your father was an Air Force NCO), but my interest in coins was noted and I received a Whitman Lincoln cent folder for Christmas that year.

    I've been collecting ever since.

Coincidentally, I just posted this 1916 obverse D in another thread today.

Some very nice coins and storys, I for one always love if there is a history behind the coin. As in owners ect.

Thanks everyone for sharing the coins and storys
