This is the best Kushan coin. Love it! Kushan Empire Kanishka I AD 128-150 AE Tetradrachm 25 mm x 17.56 g Obv. Crowned and diademed king standing facing, holding spear and sacrificing at altar at left, Bactrian legend around: þAO KA ... NηþKI (King Kanishka) Rev.Wind god Oado (Vado) running left, holding up cloak to represent the wind, Bactrian legend right field: OAΔO, tamgha in left field. Göbl 783, MAC 3108
Dont see that type too much, even in that shape. Ive been wanting this type for awhile too. Congrats to you, AN.
Are the lightly-engraved lines behind Oado meant to represent the wind? Because that's very distinctive. Either that or he looks like he's stepping out of a portal.
Either its a man running with his cloak. An old man chasing kids off his property. or An alien stepping out of a portal.
Kushan coins are so hard to find in good condition. I had to make some concessions on this one. I wanted some face or beard, I wanted a real good cloak and decent legends. I also wanted a coin that was at least somewhat legible.
I don't think a cloak would go over his head. I think it's the ancient version of movement lines. The wind is swirling around him?
awesome AN! i've seen these before, the wind god is super cool. they are hard to find in good shape, your looks pretty darn good (the last one i saw i couldn't really make out those cool lines) i am on the look out for on of the type myself, it's pretty pretty high on my list.
Very cool. This Vado character looks like real a Kushan superhero, eh . I've never seen a cloak like that on a coin, but I believe the whole 'billowing cloak over the head' thing had some divine symbolism, like on typical depictions of Europa. This one on a Castulo bronze...
Wow, that's a sweet addition, Noob (congrats) ... very cool wind-coin!! I don't have any wind-coins to add ... but I do have a pretty slick Kushan for ya India, Kushan, AE TET King Vima Kadphises & Bull w.Shive/Siva
Nor really fond of your Vima Takto Noob. Looks a bit like it was stripped and repatinated. But i love your Nana ! The centering and legend of Steve's Kadphises is a real joy ! Just a pity is the slight wear on the ithyphallic region of Shiva.
Anoob got it right here and the rest of us pretty much proved his point by being proud of our coins that are really closer to 'fine' than anything in the super grades. Most Kushan bronzes are poorly struck, part legend, worn and corroded. Nice ones are only one of those four. I can't recall seeing a coin I would call an honest, strong VF. My best is a Vima Kadphises with flat struck face but more detail than any of my other coins. How many of these have any fabric detail on his robe? Which fault we choose from the list is a matter of opinion. Kushan collectors who want EF buy gold.
I think my reverse has a clearer wiener. Can I say wiener? Doug has me on the garments. I have more face than Doug's Both Steve and Doug have better legends and surfaces.
