I came in last place on the 2011 contest
Entry must be received by noon Sunday 1/1/2011. Contest ends with the 12/14/2012 CDN newsletter.
1st Prize is one 2009 US Mint set( this was my choice last year).
(1st place goes to the portfolio with highest value. The ending value must be over $5,000. Odd chance a tie the first entry is the winner )
2nd Place gets nothing, but bragging rights. Hopefully have more then two entries.
To determine the purchase and selling price the last issue of the Weekly Coin Dealer Newsletter (CDN) gray sheet for 12/16/11 and 12/14/12 will be used or prior issue for page 3A or 3B.
The Purchase price will be the ASK price of the CDN and Sell price will be the BID price of the last Weekly price for yearend 2012.
It's a all in must pick one item/coinfor the portfolio.
The coins chosen must be in the Weekly CDN at the start and conclusion of the Contest. If the coin is removed from the weekly CDN sheet the value is Zero you lose your investment.
Must be a current CT member and not banned/removed from the CT forum.
A brief description of why you made your choice/choices would be cool.

I'll be going all in AGAIN with the same logic 2009 Unc Mint set. Bid $20 Ask is $23 BID is 217 sets. I picked these for the 8 bronze lincoln cents Mintage lt 750,000 6-13 lowest mintage cents 1st 1909svdb 2nd&3rd 2010 sms 4&5th 2008. The 2009 are also a type coins with bronze. The Statin finish is no longer being made after 2010. The 5&10 cents will also have some value in the future.

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

I'll go with Silver eagles at today's spot price of $29.19 So I'll buy 171 ASEs and one US Silver Quarter at $5.26 and one dime at $2.10

Only because I personally believe spot will double by next year

    No problem :)

Could we edit the 2001 to 2011 above, to clear up any potential misunderstandings down the road. :)

I don't have a gray sheet handy, but I'll go with the 2010 ATB hockey pucks. I think scarcity will only boost their value if bullion spikes. (Hopefully they're on the list)

I wanted to go with an uncirculated 1880 shield nickel, but they don't appear in the weekly sheets. As such, I'll go with a generic 1866-67 shield nickel (with rays) in MS65. Or at least as many as I can buy with $5000.
    Thanks!

weekly sheets, well that limits it.

okay, so to hedge the price of silver:

How about Unc sets of Franklin $1/2?
Not gems, just plain old MS-60's?
    or 63 if 60's aren't posted.

:::lugging in his 2011 bragging rights:::

I think that this year I will go with generic platinum. I'd like $5,000 worth of platinum please. (Eagles, or whatever is cheapest)

Maybe I'll build a trophy case for my bragging rights. I can see the banner now: Back-To-Back Bragging Rights 2011-2012 :goofer:
