the 2009 mint sets will have four pennies and one quarter, does anyone have any information on the designs? (the official nickname of the once cent coins is the penny. Live with it)
Well, the proof set will feature the "pennies" in the original composition in which they came in 1909, which is mostly copper. If they decide to commemorate the territories in 09, then that means a 17 coin set. Crazy, huh?
Okay, I'm gonna personally apply for statehood next week. I'm sick and tired of being delegated as a lowly territory. And, No!! I will not be referred to as a state of confusion either. I will be a proud statesman with my very own quarter.
According to PUBLIC LAW 109–145 PRESIDENTIAL $1 COIN ACT OF 2005 SEC. 302. REDESIGN OF LINCOLN CENT FOR 2009. ....... (2) REVERSE.—The reverse of the coins shall bear 4 different designs each representing a different aspect of the life of Abraham Lincoln, such as— (A) his birth and early childhood in Kentucky; (B) his formative years in Indiana; (C) his professional life in Illinois; and (D) his presidency, in Washington, D.C. The Secretary of the Treasury shall issue 1-cent coins in 2009 with the exact metallic content as the 1-cent coin contained in 1909 in such number as the Secretary determines to be appropriate for numismatic purposes. SEC. 305. SENSE OF THE CONGRESS. It is the sense of the Congress that the original Victor David Brenner design for the 1-cent coin was a dramatic departure from previous American coinage that should be reproduced, using the original form and relief of the likeness of Abraham Lincoln, on the 1-cent coins issued in 2009. I heard a proposal (I'm not sure if it's been approved) that one of the designs would be an S-VDB identical to the 1909 S-VDB in design. The legislation doesn't really make that clear.
I dont know, but keep up the news and information. All this hype is making the greysheet go haywire every month in the Lincoln ( pennies ) column. !! Yee Hawwwww
And which one of these would that fit? (A) his birth and early childhood in Kentucky; (B) his formative years in Indiana; (C) his professional life in Illinois; and (D) his presidency, in Washington, D.C. No the idea about using the wheat reverse with the VDB initials is just a pipedream that many people have expressed, I don't believe it has ever been seriously proposed in any legislation. Notice that this does not say that can't issue coins of the currently circulating composition in the numismatic sets as well.
