Howdy guy's...Just a note that I pulled the trigger on the 1875 WoodChopper $5 note. She is a beauty and I just had to have it.....I know it is off theme from the New York Collection but it will add beauty and grandure to my paper collection as a whole. I welcome it into the RickieB Collection and Proud to own it!! :smile Thanks to all who replied for the comments and support! :thumb: RickieB
Howdy Ben...Yep that what they are referred as...It is due to the farmer holding the axe near the wood log. Pretty cool nickname for a $5 Legal Tender Note...They are really known as the Pioneer Family Note Issued from Series 1869 to 1907...if you get the chance read about Salmon P. Chase Jan 29, 1862 his words on the necessity to issue paper notes due to war expesses.People were refusing these note and would not pay or trade them at all.Gold and Silver coin was the preferred method of payment and it was not until the notes became redeemable for gold coin were they accepted and freely traded! The events that lead up to this during Lincoln's Presidency were truly historic! Thanks for taking a peek.. RickieB
