Thank you papa (grandfather) *Warning Lots of Pics So this past Sunday we (my mom, my aunt, and I) were finishing up going through my grandmother's estate. She died in May and my grandfather died in i believe 2003. My grandfather collected coins/currency. He is one of the couple of reasons that i started. So we start finding some notes and coins so they say i can have any money i find. So we find three randomly a 1989 10 Deutsche Mark, Germany and (2) 1961 5 Peso, Mexico So we go through their cedar chest and in it i find my grandfathers Aviator's Flight Log Book from WWII. He helped with the gunners in the planes. I look through the pages and between two i find 10 notes all different. They are a 1942 5 Cinq Francs, Banque Del Algerie (French Algeria) " 1937 10 Shillings, Government of Gibraltar (Gibraltar *Britian) " 1943? 5 Cinq Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1942 5 Cinq Francs, Banque De L'Afrique Occidentale (French West Africa) " 1920s / 30s 10 Mil Reis, Republica Dos Estados Unidos Do Brasil, with sig (brazil) " 1941? 5 Cinq Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1937 or 38 2 Pesetas, El Banco De Espana (Spain) " 1943 100 Cent Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1937 1 Dollar, The Government of British Guiana (its in english) " 1923 1 Mil Reis, Banco Do Brasil, with sig (Brazil) Pics will be coming soon. If anybody could help me find where the dates are on these some seem to have dates like DD-MM-YY (Like the Algeria). Some were written out with number and some did not have a date so i looked in wiki since this is fast. Some are very beautiful and some show their age and then some.
Pics will probably be probably Mon. Going to Ashville on Thrs/Fri and Braves game on Sat. Home on Sun. Sorry for the wait.
Actually i realized i have a scanner on my printer that i got with my Mac from Grad/B-day/Going to college present. So i've stared on scanning them, they could be up tonight.
Here is the first 5 i found in the Log book a 1942 5 Cinq Francs, Banque Del Algerie (French Algeria) " 1937 10 Shillings, Government of Gibraltar (Gibraltar *Britian) " 1943? 5 Cinq Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1942 5 Cinq Francs, Banque De L'Afrique Occidentale (French West Africa) " 1920s / 30s 10 Mil Reis, Republica Dos Estados Unidos Do Brasil, with sig (brazil)
The last 5 a 1941? 5 Cinq Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1937 or 38 2 Pesetas, El Banco De Espana (Spain) " 1943 100 Cent Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco) " 1937 1 Dollar, The Government of British Guiana (its in english) " 1923 1 Mil Reis, Banco Do Brasil, with sig (Brazil)
I scanned them on my new HP Photosmart C4680 for my mac, when the scan would upload it would usually detect the currency, i tried to get the as straight as possible and just the bill in the pic
yea underneath the 5 in the 1941 5 Cinq Francs, Banque D'Etat Du Marco (French Morocco), there is a watermark Tiger like the presidents on our currency. One of them (i forget) had the value watermarked these have plenty of the watermarks, its very interesting they were using these. Was the US already using watermarks? and It says something on the bottom like American Printing Co. or Phil. Printing Co. on the bottom. Can anybody explain it. Thanks
