Very Cool thing to do Adam:thumb: It has to be quite a challenge to collect U.S. coins in Egypt. Stewart
There are definitely some givers here. :thumb: Good form Adam, and congrats on your new coins Egcollector.
its like Mission Impossible :headbang: specially that i dont know any coin collectors here in Egypt :crying: but thanks to generous friends like AdamL, flyers10 and kanga as well as other friends but not members of CT i have been able to add some coins every now and then to my US collection :smile:smile:smile
I'm a little on the lack of information side of what it may REALLY be like in Egypt. I may be completely wrong but I would suspect that there would be lots of tourist from the USA over there all the time. Not sure if they are allowed to carry USA coins with them though. Also, naturally that too would depend on where your at in Egypt. Have you ever tried to just look around for USA tourist and ask them if they had any USA coins? Naturally from what I see on TV here, it always appears they show almost as many Americans as there are Egyptians over there. Slight exageration of course. I know over here every place I've worked where there were people from other countries and I asked about coins, I usually get a real lot of them. Not a foreign coin collector though so most of them, I have no idea of what I've got. If you want or need more, keep on asking right here though. Nothing to loose and possibly many more.
There is Stamp collecting clubs but no coin collecting clubs. Between my relatives, friends and contacts there isnt any coin collectors, and this has affected my collecting interest. I started collecting when i was 10 years old, but i completely stopped collecting several years after as there was no one else whom i could share my hobby with, i regain my interest again about 3 years ago, when i found coin forums like Coin Talk on the internet. Nice, friendly members who are willing to help and share their information with me is the most important thing i found. I started to add to my Egyptian collection, some world coins that has some sort of a theme between them. But the great thing is that i am now collecting US coins as well. Thanks to many friends i now have, i became very much interested in these coins. Although it if frustrating to try to add to these coins while here in Egypt but that also give me great happiness when i am able to add every time and then to these collections through trades, purchases or gifts by my generous friends.
Any tourist is allowed to carry whatever currency he want, he can exchange it with Egyptian currency at any bank, or use it at the market but this may be limited to dollars and euros only "I think" I live In Giza and work in Cairo, both are in contact with each other that you can consider them one larger city. LOL, there are a lot of tourists in Egypt coming from all over the world, but we are 80 million, of which nearly 20 million are living in Cairo and Giza Dont believe everything you see or hear in the media about Egypt, i have talked to people who think that i live in a tent in the pyramids area and go to work riding a camel Unfortunately, i do not have any foreigners working with me. Told you its like mission impossible but when accomplished every now and then it gives me a great happiness
