Here is a couple of 1859 Frankfurt "Free City" thalers. Hoping you could give me your thoughts on their grades. The second appears to be in better shape. They're pretty common dates and I picked them up because of the neat eagle on the reverse :)

VF-20 and EF-45? I'm just starting to practice grading... nice thalers, Mr. Bone.

    Dear Marianne,

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Pretty soon, I may develop the nickname "Cheap Thaler Guy" LOL as I have a few more on the way. Surprisingly, you can grab some pretty old & nice ones for just a few dollars. Overall, they're still relatively inexpensive and while not at melt levels (except for some Maria Theresas) are worth it. I think so anyway. :)

    Cheap Thaler Guy,

It's amazing how inexpensive some cool old foreign coins can be. I bought a couple of the Krause books to get a handle on what I inherited, but now I'm looking at them as if they were the old Sears catalogs! I'm doomed.

I need to get both of the older ones 1701-1800 and 1801-1900. I have the last one. Sure wish you could get the information on-line.

Bone, those are very nice Frankfurt Vereinsthalers. There were 30 Vereinsthalers that would have been struck from a pound of silver.Pound as in wieght (lb),not Pound as in British currency.I have got a Frankfurt 6 Kreuzer with the city view.

    Aidan.
