I was given this Thai coin set a couple years ago from a friend, and I was wondering if anyone on here can tell me the date? Also, writing on the set indicates that the 1 Baht coin is silver...is this so? or is it one of those copper-nickel-silver-zinc ones? Any other information on this set would be helpful. Here are a couple of pictures. I have more if needed.

hmm, why are my thumbnails so large? Anyhow, here are some closer pictures of the obverse and reverse of the 1 baht coin, as well as a picture of the reverse of the 25 satang.

No way to tell just by looking at it. Especially through a coputer. Krause does not list a fineness of weight for the silver issue. You might try the tissue paper test. Put a single layer of tissue paper over it and see if it appear white or gray.

From looking at the pictures, designs and listed compositions, I suspect this is MS5 which is listed as having KM 82 not 82a. I doubt that it is the silver one. If the tissue test shows white then you might want to try weighing the coin ifit can be removed from the holder safely.

edit: nevermind I found my catalog. 1957 it says. My 2004 standard catalog of world coins, lists the tin 10 satang, KM 79b as being worth $45 in unc, is this correct?

apparently these sets were struck between 1954-1964, so I guess I can't really know when mine were minted.

MS2-6 are listed as "Mixed" date. MS7-12 are dated from 1975-94, and then they revert to "Mixed" for the rest of the 20th Century in the 2007 34th Edition.

The date on the baht looks like "2?00" to me, but the second digit absolutely does not look like any Thai numeral as shown in Krause. (Western year 2007 is BE year 2550.)

In actual practice the numerals as shown on the coin sometimes have no relation to how it appears in the table in Krause. It seems the person creating the die uses "artistic license"
