VAMs are all date specific. A VAM 7 for one date will not be the same for another. I can tell you though that there are no Hot 50 or Top 100's for 1898-O.

A VAM 7 for this date is a near date R-3.

I'm old, I need closer pics to grade and attribue VAMs......;) :smile

I'm fairly certain your coin would grade a 64. It is very nice for a 64, but there is just too much on the cheek and neck for it to go 65 IMO. The fields are very nice, the luster is great, as well as the strike. A very nice O-mint morgan.

I know the books all talk about eye appeal, luster, and strike, but when it comes to Morgans, Miss Liberty's cheek seems to be the most important factor in grading (at least in my opinion...others may disagree). So it seems from your photos that the cheek has just a little too much in the way of contact marks. A 65 would be nearly flawless on the cheek to the naked eye.

Certain coins get "hung-up" on certian factors and the cheek is that factor for Morgans. I know the grading books indicate that there are other factors, but those take a second seat in the case of a Morgan, in my opinion. I have learned this lesson the hard way.

    Beautiful coin by the way!

ok.. like with the others there just the obvers.. which seems to be the big question with morgans.. now this coin does have the were on the cheek.. but its not a dig or a gouge.. it more a rub?? and i have seen other 65's graded from the 2 big comp.. with the same as this?? on heritage coin..??? and some not.. ive seen some 64 that looked to me as a 66.. and 66s that i thought should be 64 ?? is it just what kinda mood these graders are in?? on that preticuler day?? LOL

anyways thanks for all the info

I would say MS64 for the same reasons already noted.
